Croatia Part Four: Split

We arrived at Split’s harbour after about an hour’s ferry ride from Hvar (give or take a slight delay) and walked for a short while until we found our accommodation for the next couple of nights – Hostel Split Garden – which we had found on Hostel World whilst in Hvar. We arrived to find the place was quite busy. There was a communal area outside, packed full of guys noisily drinking before their night out. We checked into our room but didn’t stick around for long before we headed out in search of food.

Croatia Part Three: food and drink in Hvar

When travelling on a budget and staying in hostels, I always feel like I should be making the most of the kitchen facilities, eating light and pre-drinking in the common areas but now that I am technically growing up (even though my budget might not have expanded as much as I would like – thank you London rental prices), I feel more justified in buying food out as much as possible and checking out the local nightlife. Croatia Part Two: activities, transport and accommodation in Hvar

Before I went to Croatia, I spoke to several friends who had been to get recommendations for where to go and what to do. My holiday buddies did the same thing. Without fail, every person we asked told us to go to Hvar. After I arrived, it took me all of 30 seconds to see why. I spent three nights on the island but I could easily have spent my entire week there. Croatia Part One: Dubrovnik

My trip to Croatia had an early start: 3.30am to be precise. My flight was at 7am, I had to be a Gatwick at 5am and so I needed to leave the house (having ordered by first ever Uber) at 4am. Ew. Thankfully I was so excited I could just about manage it. My week long trip to Croatia was going to start in Dubronik before taking me onto Hvar and then Split. At the airport, I treated myself to a croissant from Apostrophe – stuffed with ham and cheese. My four travel buddies all went for healthier options but this was a holiday. My UNESCO World Heritage Checklist

After doing my list of the Seven Wonders of the World, I wondered how many UNESCO World Heritage sites I’d seen without knowing it and how many I had left to do. It turns out, that out of the 1,121 (as updated) preserved cultural and natural landmarks, I have been to 58.
