Berlin really is a hipster haven. For one reason or another, several areas have been abandoned, however these places are not just left to become derelict and lonely.
Tempelhof was a pre-WWII airport which closed its doors in 2008. It is now used as a park, with people skating, cycling and land-surfing up and down the runways.
Spreepark was an amusement park, whose history dates back to 1969. It became Spreepark in 1989 and ran until 2002 when the family who owned it moved to Peru. From that time it attracted tourists who wanted to see the deserted park and has featured in films including Hanna. Since 2011, the family has restricted the access of wandering visitors and now has designated tours and train ride around the edge of the park.
